Jim is a founding partner and managing member of O’Leary, Shelton, Corrigan, Peterson, Dalton & Quillin, LLC and concentrates his practice in injury litigation and torts, including negligence, truck and bicycle crashes, construction and work place injuries, electric shock and electrocution, spinal and brain injuries, premises liability and negligent hiring or supervision resulting in criminal acts of murder, molestation, rape and sexual assault, defectively designed or constructed roads or structures, and defective products, including construction equipment, medical device and pharmaceuticals.

Jim was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Jim graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1992 and attended law school at St. Louis University School of Law where he graduated in 1995.

Jim began his legal career in an insurance defense firm, where he spent seven years learning how insurance companies evaluated and defended claims and lawsuits brought against them and the companies or individuals they insured by injured people.  Jim decided to use his knowledge to help those injured people, and in 2002 became one of the founding members in Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson, LLC, where he spent fifteen years, representing individuals and families sustaining injuries from dangerous products and the actions of others.  In September of 2017 Jim and five other attorneys from his old firm left to form O’Leary, Shelton, Corrigan, Peterson, Dalton & Quillin LLC to continue their well-established tradition and goal of helping those injured from dangerous products or the actions of others.

In 2005, Jim tried a case in Jefferson County Circuit Court, Kohlfield v. Rock Hill Mechanical Corp., involving a construction site fall resulting in spinal and brain injuries. Jim obtained a $9,000,000 unanimous verdict on a no offer case from the insurance company, which is the largest personal injury verdict in the history of Jefferson County, Missouri.

Later that same year, Jim was successful in obtaining a $1,500,000 settlement for a sexual assault and rape victim at Plaza Square Apartments in the City of St. Louis, N.R. v. Plaza Square Partners, LLC, et al., which is believed to be the largest reported settlement of a sexual assault case against an apartment complex in Missouri.

In February 2010, Jim successfully tried the case of Willett v. Harsco Corporation d/b/a Patent Construction Systems, a construction site accident involving defective scaffolding which resulted in a back injury. Jim obtained a $1,100,000 unanimous verdict in St. Clair County, Illinois Circuit Court on a no offer case from the insurance company. This verdict is one of the largest personal injury verdicts in St. Clair County, Illinois over the past ten years.

In August 2011, after three years of litigation, Jim successfully resolved a child’s bicycle crash resulting in a brain injury, Kramer v. Bax Engineering, et al. Jim proved the crash was caused by a defectively constructed road. The insurance companies for the contractors which designed, built and maintained the road settled the case with his client’s family for $8,300,000. This settlement is believed to be the largest personal injury settlement in St. Charles County, Missouri history.

In March of 2012, Jim resolved a case involving a defective consumer product, which burnt his client, for $2,900,000.

In July of 2012, after several years of litigation, Jim obtained a $3,450,000 settlement for three electric utility line workers who sustained electric shock injuries due to a defective wire stand. This settlement is the largest personal injury settlement in the rural Missouri county where the case was set to be tried. That same month, Jim obtained a $425,000 arbitration award against the State of Missouri on a no offer case for a defective intersection which caused a car crash in Mains v. M.H.T.C.

In September of 2012, Jim obtained $950,000 and waiver of the $340,000 workers’ compensation lien for a union carpenter who fell off a roof, which is believed to be the largest reported personal injury settlement in St. Louis County for a co-employee construction site negligence case in Barton v. Bazzell, et al.
